YEAR LONG EPIC CYCLE CHALLENGE 2021
I am cycling for a whole year in memory of my beautiful neice Zara who took her own life in February 2020, please look at my poster for full details. My first of Three major challenges took place on 21st/22nd May where I attempted to cycle the height of Everest in one day on one hill. Unfortunately the temperature dropped to minus 2 degrees which caused me to cramp up in the legs very badly, so I had to cycle one legged for a large part of the night which lost us a lot of time. Late afternoon the wind grew in strength to gale force and it started to rain about 6pm. at times the wind was nearly blowing us across the road, and coupled with being cold all day sapped our strength. The road became a river of water with debris being washed onto it so at 10pm Sunday night we called a halt for safety reasons. We climbed 25,000 feet, 150 miles distance in 18 hours cycling, only 4,000 feet short of the top of Everest.. My second challenge started on Friday 25th June at 2000 hours, with my two friends Josh Watson (29yrs old), and Andy Macrae (46yrs old), all members of the Porkshire Cycle Club which is a Strava club where we welcome all riders. We had a nice Back wind down to the Humber bridge and one of the ladies called Kay from Filey rode with us where her husband picked her up and had hot drinks & snacks for us. My next challenge starts on Friday 30th July my 68th birthday where I am attempting to cycle 300 miles in one day, on a 15-mile circuit from my home.
